Out of all the temples in Wayanad, Seethadevi Lava Kusha Temple is the only known temple in Kerala that is dedicated to Seetha Devi and has the installed deities of her sons, Lava and Kusha. It is a sacred site that holds immense religious significance among the locals.
According to legends, Maa Seetha stayed here for some time during her exile. Another interesting story related to this temple is that you cannot find the leeches here which are quite common in Wayanad because Goddess Seetha cursed them as leeches bit Lava and Kusha while they were playing here.
Tracing its history back to the 18th century, the Seethadevi Lava Kusha Temple was built by Shri Pazhassi Raja. It boasts a peaceful environment for devotees to relax and has surroundings that make you fall in love with it every time you come here, whether for a day or two. If possible, try to visit this temple in January as this is the time when the annual festival is celebrated with great zest and endeavor, encouraging a huge influx of people to flock from different parts of the nation.
